The Richmond Hill Canoe Club is currently seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual for the position of Lead Competitive Coach for the 2021 paddling season. Beginning in the spring, this individual will take on the primary responsibility of coaching RHCC’s U14 Competitive program.

This important group of intermediate athletes will continue to train throughout the summer to improve their skills in the sport of canoe/kayak as they prepare to compete in inter-club regattas. Additional coaching responsibilities with both RHCC’s youth and adult programming will be added as needed. Period of Employment:

  • May 3 to June 25, 2021 – Part time (approximately 10-15 hours/week)
  • June 28 to August 20, 2021 – Full time (minimum 30 hours/week)
  • September to October – To be determined (ideally available for 10-15 hours/week)

Salary: $16.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Head Coach, primarily responsible for overseeing the Competitive and Racing Development programs
  • In consultation with the Head Coach, plan and implement programming for various groups and levels of paddlers.
  • Assist with promotion and recruitment for all RHCC programs.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from parents and the general public in a professional manner, whether in person or via email.
  • Coordinating entries for inter-club regattas.
  • Work with and support other coaches and volunteers in the delivery of programming
  • Be familiar with and understand how to put into practice emergency procedures. Respond to emergency situations as they arise
  • Ensure the site is kept clean, organized and free of litter
  • Organize supplies and when necessary order and replenish needed materials
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the BOD and Head Coach
  • Be familiar with the RHCC Harassment Policy and RHCC Code of Conduct, in particular the RHCC Paddling Safety Policy
  • Be familiar with and enforce Covid-19 safety protocols, policies and procedures

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in teaching canoeing and kayaking at various levels.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in camp or youth programs, or working with children.
  • Current CPR & Standard first aid certification required
  • Swim requirement – Bronze Cross
  • National Lifeguard Certification an asset (Please provide the Lifesaving Society verification code)
  • CKC CanoeKids certification
  • NCCP certification an asset (Please provide NCCP #)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child athletics
  • Ability to work in a team environment, to collaborate and to communicate effectively with staff, participants, parents and the general public
  • Ability to lead and participate in youth program activities
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card

The Richmond Hill Canoe Club is currently seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual for the position of Youth Program Coordinator for the 2021 paddling season.

The Youth Program Coordinator will be responsible for promoting Richmond Hill Canoe Club, in particular the weekly Canoe Kids program as well as RHCC’s Racing Development program, both intended for novice or beginner youth paddlers. Throughout the spring and summer, this individual will also be expected to assist with registration and program coordination. In addition to being the lead coach for the Canoe Kids program, additional coaching duties will be added, with continued responsibilities throughout the summer for club promotion.

  • Reporting to the Head Coach, primarily responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination and implementation of general youth programming, in particular Canoe Kids
  • Assist with promotion and recruitment for all RHCC programs. To include managing social
    media accounts.
  • Assist with the registration process and responding to inquiries from parents and the general
    public in a professional manner, whether in person or via email.
  • Prepare attendance list and other administrative records.
  • Plan and coordinate intra-club racing events.
  • Work with and support other coaches and volunteers in the delivery of programming
  • Be familiar with and understand how to put into practice emergency procedures. Respond to emergency situations as they arise
  • Ensure the site is kept clean, organized and free of litter
  • Organize supplies and when necessary order and replenish needed materials
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the BOD and Head Coach
  • Be familiar with the RHCC Harassment Policy and RHCC Code of Conduct, in particular the RHCC Paddling Safety Policy
  • Be familiar with and enforce Covid-19 safety protocols, policies and procedures

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as Recreation and Leisure Services, or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in camp or youth programs, or working with children
