The Richmond Hill Canoe Club strives to be the best place to paddle in Canada!  We aim to give our members a transformational canoe club experience. The RHCC is seeking THREE dynamic and responsible individuals for the position of Program Coordinator/Coach for the 2024 paddling season.  

 

We are looking for:

  •  strong communicators who are open to feedback, curious to learn, take initiative, and work well with others.
  • individuals who are committed to being world class at the basics (aspects of paddling, fitness, relating to others).

 

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Program Coordinators will be responsible for promoting and coordinating programming, in addition to coaching responsibilities.  Throughout the spring and summer, this individual will also be expected to assist with registration and program coordination as well as supporting club promotional activities and events.  

 

These individuals will display through their attitude and actions a desire to align with the club’s broader vision and goals. They will have an ability to recognize people’s strengths and be able to communicate their potential consistently.

 

Period of Employment 

  • Spring:  May 6 to June 28, 2024 (Part Time 10-20 hrs/wk)
  • Summer:  July 2 to September 4, 2023 (Full Time 30+ hrs/wk)
  • Fall:  September/October – TBD

 

Salary range:  $19 – $25 /hr, depending on qualifications and experience

 

Responsibilities

  • Together with the Head Coach, oversees the planning, coordination and implementation of programming.
  • Supports the delivery of programming, working with the Head Coach
  • Assists with RHCC communication, responding to inquiries in a timely & professional manner, whether in person or via email.
  • Attends and participates in weekly coaching meetings.  
  • Plans and coordinates intra-club racing events.  Coordinates entries for inter-club regattas (divisional, provincial, national).
  • Works with and supports other coaches and volunteers in the delivery of programming.
  • Responds to emergency situations as they arise, with a demonstrated knowledge of emergency procedures. 
  • Communicates effectively and regularly with the Board of Directors and Head Coach.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the CKC Safe Sport Policy, RHCC Harassment Policy and RHCC Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrates knowledge with and enforces Covid-19 safety protocols, policies and procedures.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 to 2 years’ experience coaching canoe/kayak.  Experience coaching adults is an asset.
  • NCCP Canoe Kids certification required (please provide NCCP#)
  • Current CPR & Standard first aid certification required.
  • Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Certification an asset  (please provide the Lifesaving Society verification code)
  • ELCC an asset (please provide NCCP#)
  • SafeSport training and screening: must hold or be willing to obtain
  • Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card required
  • ORCKA Levels 1 & 2 an asset
  • War Canoe coxing certification an asset
  • Ability to lead and participate in program activities for children and youth and/or adults.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and be proactive.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, to collaborate and to communicate effectively with staff, participants, parents and the general public

The Richmond Hill Canoe Club is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to work with our Canoe Kids summer camp program this summer.  

 

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Camp Counsellor will work as part of the Canoe Kids team, supervising youth campers in on and off-water activities.  We are looking for a strong communicator who is open to feedback, curious to learn, takes initiative, and works well with others. 

 

All staff  will display through their attitude and actions a desire to align with the club’s broader vision and goals as well as have an ability to recognize people’s strengths and communicate their potential consistently.

 

Period of Employment:   July 2 to August 16, 2024 

 

Hours of Work:  30 hours per week, 8:30 am – 3:30pm

 

Salary range:  $16.55 – $18.55,  depending on qualifications and experience

 

Responsibilities

    • Reporting to the Program Coordinator, assist with and lead camp programming for campers aged 8-11.  Activities to include dry-land and on-water activities
    • Assist in responding to inquiries from parents and the general public in a timely and professional manner whether in person or via email.
  • Participate in weekly coaching meetings.
  • Work with and support other coaches and volunteers in the delivery of programming.
  • Respond to emergency situations as they arise, with a demonstrated knowledge of emergency procedures. 
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the Head Coach.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the CKC Safe Sport Policy, RHCC Harassment Policy and RHCC Code of Conduct.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience leading programming for children, preferably in a summer camp setting
  • Current CPR & Standard First Aid certification required.
  • Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Certification an asset.  (Please provide the Lifesaving Society verification code)
  • CKC CanoeKids certification an asset 
  • NCCP certification an asset. (Please provide NCCP #)
  • SafeSport training and screening required (To be provided)
  • Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card an asset.
  • ORCKA Levels 1 & 2 an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child athletics.
  • Demonstrated ability to be dependable and punctual.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and be proactive.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, to collaborate and to communicate effectively with staff, participants, parents and the general public.

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Sprint Program Coach will work with both youth and adult programming, engaging with athletes of all skill levels.  

 

We are looking for  strong communicators who are open to feedback, curious to learn, take initiative, and work well with others, and individuals committed to being world class at the basics (aspects of paddling, fitness, relating to others).

 

All coaches will display through their attitude and actions a desire to align with the club’s broader vision and goals as well as have an ability to recognize people’s strengths and communicate their potential consistently.

 

Period of Employment: 

Cover letter should indicate the time periods available.

  • Spring:  May 6 to June 30, 2024
  • Summer:  July 2 to August 30, 2024 
  • Fall:  September/October (TBD)

 

Hours of Work:  Cover letter should indicate preference for either full time or part time, as follows:

  • Full Time (30 hrs + per week) OR
  • Part Time (10 to 30 hours per week)

 

Salary range:  $16.55 – $22, depending on  experience and qualifications

    • Works closely with Programs Coordinators with regards to administrative and scheduling matters.
  • Participates in weekly coaching meetings.
  • Works with and supports other coaches and volunteers in the delivery of programming.
  • Responds to emergency situations as they arise, with a demonstrated knowledge of emergency procedures. 
  • Assists with the coordination of intra-club regattas.
  • Communicates effectively and regularly with the Head Coach.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the CKC Safe Sport Policy, RHCC Harassment Policy and RHCC Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and will enforce Covid-19 safety protocols, policies and procedures.





Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching canoeing and kayaking at various levels (youth and/or adult) OR experience in teaching other sports at youth or adult level
  • Current CPR & Standard First Aid certification required.
  • Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Certification an asset.  (Please provide the Lifesaving Society verification code)
  • CKC CanoeKids certification: must hold or be willing to obtain
  • NCCP certification an asset such as ELCC and/or FMS. (Please provide NCCP #)
  • SafeSport training and screening: must hold or be willing to obtain
  • Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card required.
  • Orca Levels 1 & 2 an asset.
  • War Canoe coxing certification an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child athletics.
