The Richmond Hill Canoe Club strives to be the best place to paddle in Canada! We aim to give our members a transformational canoe club experience. The RHCC is seeking dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to fill a number of coaching positions for the 2023 paddling season.

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Sprint Program Coach will work within both youth and adult programming, engaging with athletes of all skill levels.

All coaches will display in their attitude and actions a desire to align with the club’s broader vision and goals as well as have an ability to recognize people’s strengths and communicate their potential consistently.

Period of Employment: Cover letter should indicate the time periods available.

  • Spring: May 1 to June 30. 2023
  • Summer: July 3 to September 4, 2023
  • Fall: September/October (TBD)

Hours of Work: Cover letter should indicate preference in either full time or part time

  • Full Time (30 hrs + /wk) or
  • Part Time (10 – 30 hrs/wk)

Salary: TBD (Based on experience and qualifications)

Responsibilities

General:

  • A strong communicator who is open to feedback, curious to learn, takes initiative, and works well with others.
  • An individual committed to being world class at the basics (aspects of paddling, fitness, relating to others).

Specific

  • Reporting to the Head Coach, plans and implements programming for various levels of paddlers, from youth to adults.
  • Assists in responding to inquiries from parents and the general public in a timely and professional manner whether in person or via email.
  • Works collaboratively with both the Youth and Adult Programs Coordinators and acts as a back-up in their absence.
  • Participates in weekly coaching meetings.
  • Works with and supports other coaches and volunteers in the delivery of programming
  • Responds to emergency situations as they arise, with a demonstrated knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Assists with the coordination of intra-club regattas. Coordinates entries for inter-club regattas (divisional, provincial, national).
  • Communicates effectively and regularly with the Head Coach.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the CKC Safe Sport Policy, RHCC Harassment Policy and RHCC Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrates knowledge with and enforces Covid-19 safety protocols, policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching canoeing and kayaking at various levels (youth and/or adult)
  • Current CPR & Standard First Aid certification required
  • Experience in racing and/or coaching canoe or war canoe an asset
  • Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Certification an asset (Please provide the Lifesaving Society verification code)
  • CKC CanoeKids certification an required
  • NCCP certification an asset such as ELCC and or FMS (Please provide NCCP #)
  • SafeSport training and screening required
  • Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card required
  • Orca Levels 1 & 2 an asset
  • War Canoe coxing certification and asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child athletics
  • Demonstrated ability to be dependable and punctual
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and be proactive
  • Ability to work in a team environment, to collaborate and to communicate effectively with staff, participants, parents and the general public

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Race Ready Program Lead will be responsible for coordinating all youth programs under the U14 umbrella (Racing Development U12 & Competitive U14). Throughout the spring and summer, this individual will be expected to assist with registration, inquiries, and program scheduling as well as supporting club promotional activities.

This individual will display in their attitude and actions a desire to align with the club’s broader vision and goals as well as have an ability to recognize people’s strengths and communicate their potential consistently.

Period of Employment:

  • Spring/Summer: May 1 to September 3, 2023 – Full time (30+ hrs/wk)
  • Fall: September/October – Part time (10-15 hrs/wk)

Salary: TBD (Based on experience and qualifications)

  • Liaises with parents including hosting of information sessions
  • Assists with the management of RHCC social media accounts.
  • Works with and supports other coaches and volunteers in the delivery of programming.
  • Responds to emergency situations as they arise, with a demonstrated knowledge of emergency procedures.

  • NCCP certification: ELCC required. Additional qualifications such as FMS are an asset (Please provide NCCP #)
  • ORCA Levels 1 & 2 are an asset

  • Minimum 1 to 2 years’ experience coaching canoe/kayak. Experience coaching adults is an asset.
  • Current CPR & Standard first aid certification required.

Reporting to the Head Coach, the Youth Development Coordinator (RI) will oversee the afternoon/evening Racing Intro youth groups. The Canoe Kids coordinator will oversee this introductory 2 week program. Throughout the spring and summer, these individuals will be expected to assist with registration, inquiries, program coordination as well as support club promotional activities.

 

These individuals will display in their attitude and actions a desire to align with the club’s broader vision and goals as well as have an ability to recognize people’s strengths and communicate their potential consistently.

 

Period of Employment:

  • Spring: May 1 to June 30, 2023 (Part Time 10-20 hrs/wk)
