The Richmond Hill Canoe Club is currently seeking dynamic and enthusiastic individuals for the positions of Camp Coordinator and Camp Counsellor for our 2020 Summer Camp. Under the direction of the Board-of-Directors (BOD) and head coach, the Camp Coordinator and Camp Counsellor will both play important roles in RHCC’s Summer Camp programming.

Period of Employment: 

  • May 4 to June 26, 2020 – Part time (approximately 10-15 hours/week)
  • June 29 to August 21, 2020 – Full time

Salary:  $18.00 per hour

Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the planning, coordination and implementation of general camp operations
  • Support camp staff and volunteers in the delivery of daily activities
  • Act as an RHCC ambassador and assist in promotional and special events as needed
  • Assist with the camp registration process
  • Prepare attendance list and other administrative records
  • Organize camp supplies and when necessary order and replenish needed materials
  • Respond to emergency/difficult situations as they arise
  • Ensure the site is kept clean, organized and free of litter
  • Respond to inquiries from campers, parents and the general public in a professional manner
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the BOD and Head Coach
  • Be familiar with the RHCC Harassment Policy and RHCC Code of Conduct, in particular the RHCC Paddling Safety Policy
  • Be responsible for knowing, understanding, communicating, and executing camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as Recreation and Leisure Services, or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in camp or youth programs, or working with children
  • Current CPR & Standard first aid certification required
  • Current High Five certification required
  • National Lifeguard Certification required
  • Willingness to complete CKC CanoeKids certification upon hire (2 days TBD)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of practices, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to youth/child athletics
  • Ability to work in a team environment, to collaborate and to communicate effectively with staff, participants, parents and the general public
  • Ability to lead and participate in camp activities
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card

Period of Employment:

  • June 29 to August 21, 2020 – Full time

Salary:  $15.00 to $16.00 per hour

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement daily activities off water
  • Create an alternative plan for inclement weather
  • Ensure the site is kept clean, organized and free of litter
  • Be responsible for knowing, understanding, communicating, and executing camp policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp
  • Interact effectively with the staff, BOD, Head Coach with campers’ best interest in mind
  • Communicate effectively with parents and address concerns in a timely manner. Seek the help of Camp Coordinator or Head Coach as needed
  • Work with special events, promotional and other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age: 16 years old
  • Previous experience as camp counsellor (or CIT) experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children or in a related field
  • Current CPR & Standard first aid certification required
  • Current High Five certification required
  • Minimum swim level: Bronze Cross; National Lifeguard Certification an asset
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to communicate effectively
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening
