RACE READY - COMPETITIVE U14, U16, U18
COMPETITIVE U14+
We offer our Competitive U14+ program to returning paddlers (RACE ready) and to new paddlers (intro to RACE ready) who are committed athletes and ready to participate in a more intense program and prepare for competitions.
RACE READY COMPETITIVE U14 (returning paddlers)
Competitive U14 is for our RACE ready U14 athletes. These athletes will continue to develop their paddling skills and begin to take part in some inter-club regattas.
INTRO TO RACE READY COMPETITIVE U14 (new paddlers)
Intro to Competitive U14 is for U14 athletes who are new to sprint canoe-kayaking but would like to learn quickly and become part of our competitive team for the season. These athletes will learn their paddling skills in the spring and then merge with the RACE ready Comp U14 group in the summer and begin to take part in some inter-club regattas.
COMP U16 / U18 (non-HP pathway)
Our Competitive U16 / U18 program is for older youth athletes who are interested in the sprint canoe/kayak sport and enjoy commitment to a regular training program but are not (yet) on a high performance pathway.
This is our LEARNING TO TRAIN stage where we will assess and remediate gaps in physical literacy and muscular imbalances. This is a critical stage for young athletes to learn the rules of sport, values and the consequences of one’s actions. These athletes will continue to develop their paddling skills and begin to take part in some inter-club regattas.
All RHCC programs require swimming ability: Lifesaving Society Swim Levels Swimmer 5 or Red Cross Level 6.
